Well, what do I write about? I've started a blog so I really should have something to say...and therein lies the problem. I'm not a great talker, I'm more of a "bottle it up" kind of person, not condusive to the best blog, let's be fair.
There was a question which came up yesterday (well, the early hours of this morning, in fact) and it was along these lines:
"What don't you believe in?"
Now that is a splendid question, and one that either has a really flippant answer or one of such depth that it would take hundreds of words to describe. I think it would be easier to say what I do believe in.
Things I believe in...
Personal responsibility in everday life...no-one can blame their actions on another person. You can't blame a devil/demon for your own short comings...it's your choice, nobody else's (although I do accept that mental illness can make a person do things outside of their normal behaviour patterns, and situations like having a gun to your head, protecting your family...desperate times call for desperate measures, and all that).
Everyone has the right to find their own faith path/religion/spirituality, and that their choice is right and true for them (if for no-one else). No-one has the right to tell others that they are wrong...the spirit of "agree to disagree" is the key to us all getting along.
No such thing as a literal heaven and hell...I believe that something happens to us after death, but I have no idea what that maybe.
Multiple gods/goddesses...whether they are seperate or a part of some kind of "Ultimate Spirit" I have no idea, but I believe that all of the deities that have ever been or existed still do. Just because something is ignored or not worshipped anymore, doesn't negate its presence or power. If a person believes in and worships Isis, Freya, Herne, Kali, Morrighan, Thor, Loki, Papa Legba, Zeus...whomever it maybe then they exist. If the "Christian" GOD exists and says that "you shall have no other gods before me" then there must be other gods to make that statement have any meaning at all.
People don't need deity to make their lives complete. Plenty of people never hear of gods (henceforth used to mean all gods/goddesses) and their lives do not fall apart! Plenty of people choose to reject gods and their lives do not fall apart. If people want to incorperate some form of deity into their lives, that is their choice, but they are not neccessary for life to continue. The planet will continue to turn, the sun will rise and set, people will be born and die regardless of religious beliefs!
That we will never truly know how we and everything else upon this planet came to be. Maybe we were created, maybe we happened by chance, maybe it happened as was written in a two thousand year old book...it doesn't matter!! We are all here, we have one planet that we all have to share, so we had all better do our best to get along.
Choice of faith should never stand in the way of basic common sense and reason. If it does, it's time to find another faith!
